One Block Wonder Class Using Panels or Running Yardage
Introduction:
Class: This is a two session class in which you will learn the One Block Wonder technique and be able to design your own quilt. The wonderful thing about making these quilts is that no fabric preparation is required other than pressing by following the Pre-Class Instructions below. DO NOT PREWASH THE FABRIC. Prewashing removes the sizing and can distort the fabric.
CLASS ONE: You will learn how to layer and stack your repeats, cut your strips, cut your equilateral triangles and sew your hexie's. Your homework will be to sew all your hexie's before the next class.
CLASS TWO: Bring all your sewn hexis's to begin the designing process. At this class, you may want to buy a fabric for a border or accent, but that will be determined at that time according to the design that’s being created. No sewing machine needed for this class.
Fabric:
If making the One Block Wonder using panels: you will need 7 panels.
If making the One Block Wonder using running yardage, you will need 4 ½ yards to make a lap, twin or full size. Don’t buy a repeat of anything smaller than 12 inches. 12 - 24” repeat is ideal.
The larger the print, the less the finished blocks will look like the original fabric. This is the result you want! It's fun to have people say, "I can't believe this fabric produced this quilt!"
I guess what I'm saying is: don't choose a tiny print.
